How To Get Into Business As A Teenager

I remember when I was 16 years old, I had no idea how to get into business. In fact, my definition of a business back then is miles away from what I know now.

When I asked friends and family about how I should get started, they all said I needed to pursue a business degree (or an MBA) to achieve my dreams of having a successful business.

However, it’s been almost 3 years since then and that couldn’t be farther from the truth.

I’m working full-time as a Digital Marketing Specialist, working as a part-time content writer, and I’m in the midst of building a lucrative online business.

In this article, I’m gonna show you step by step on how achieve those business ambitions/money ambitions you seek without going to school for it or breaking the bank.

Wanna make money? Let me show you the best possible way to do that!

Understand that starting a business is expensive

There are lots of low-entry business models that only require a computer with an internet connection, such as drop shipping or creating a cheap Amazon product, flipping products on Ebay, etc.

However, those markets are so saturated it’s impossible to compete unless you have the resources to do so, which many teenagers do not have.

There ways to make a little extra money such as driving Uber or Lyft, doing chores for family and neighbors. Those aren’t going to give you the paycheck of a neurosurgeon though.

If you don’t have any money to start with, I’d suggest you get a job or if you’re too young, trade your time to do the things listed above to get some cash on hand.

Then, you need to use that money to invest into learning a high income and preferably, an in-demand skill.

choose a high income skill

Before you decide to invest your hard-earned money into some random course, do your research.

First you need to decide what skill you wish to pursue. The skills I’m about to show you are ones that just involve a computer, so no physical labor around here!

Some good ones to research would be

  • Copywriting
  • Web Development
  • Consulting
  • Sales
  • Digital Marketing (my personal choice)

Those are the big ones but those are only a few of the skills out there that you can pick. I chose those ones specifically because those are all skills I have obtained over the years.

You may be wondering why I put Digital Marketing as my personal choice, allow me to explain.

When I was about half-way through my senior year of high school, I had no idea what I was going to do after I graduated. Through a school project and a little bit of luck, I stumbled upon Seth Hymes’ IndemandCareer Digital Marketing Training Blueprint.

Seth’s course was designed to help students just like me get full-time incomes with no previous experience or education. It’s specifically designed to beat the experience paradox of today’s world!

He goes over technical subjects such as

  • Facebook ads
  • Google Ads
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Not only this, but he takes it a step further and shows how to get jobs by

  • Showing you how to write your resume
  • What to look for in job postings
  • What to say in your interviews or cover letters

You can obtain all of this knowledge for just $97/month. That’s it! This course could easily be charged for at least a couple grand, but Seth knew that most high schoolers don’t have that kind of money.

start working for free

“Now why would I say you need to work for free when this is all about making money?” You may ask. Well, once you learn all of these skills you need to get your foot in the door.

This wouldn’t be forever I promise! I’d say your first gig or two in your skill of choice should be free, or maybe a bargain.

For example, let’s say you find a job posting on Upwork and a potential client is asking for $200 to complete a task. In your proposal, say you’ll do it for $100 and see if the client complies.

This also doesn’t have to be traditional experience by any means. If you know someone who needs help with a project and your services could be beneficial, it doesn’t hurt to ask!

Experience is experience.

Or how about you know a friend who needs your services for a day or two. That counts as experience!

Become a freelancer or consultant

Now I know, those words sound a little intimidating but it’s 100% doable. In fact, a lot of the business gurus are freelancers and consultants.

You can be one as well!

You can leverage the skills you’ve gained with the steps before and apply them to make the big bucks.

This isn’t just about the money, however, this is about a complete lifestyle change.

You’ll have the ability to work your own hours, travel the world, and practically do whatever you want while still making the income of a neurosurgeon.

This alone is business model that many others have stuck with, but what if you wanted to take this even further?

start your own amazon fba business

The problem with the dropshipping business model is that you aren’t original, so regardless of how many resources you put into dropshipping, it will not give you that long term success unless you repeat it over and over.

However, if you create your own product in a specific niche that’s unique and original you’ll have that long term success. Let me explain.

Let’s say you search for speakers for desktop on Amazon. You realize that the revenue is split evenly with tools such as Helium 10 or Jungle Scout. However, you realize that there isn’t a pink surround sound speaker that can be mounted.

You can contact suppliers through Alibaba or other methods to create your own product that fulfills that grey area.

After that, it’s all about marketing and maintaining your start up business. You can also branch out to create other products within your niche.

conclusion

I realize this is a lot of information to take in but I want to show you guys the possibilities that are out there!
